Identity
What is identity? What are people’s ways of identifying themselves? This project explores what it’s like being Irish in today’s multicultural Ireland, focusing on people who live Irish lives but are still seen as “foreign”. Through portraits and talking to my subjects, I explored how people perceive their selves being non-white in a predominantly Caucasian country and how society perceives them by putting them into their own personal spaces or spaces where you know it’s Ireland. Through the series I am allowing people to express their experiences and challenge the definition of what “Irish” looks like today. The project combines portrait photography, personal space and people’s voices.
